WebThe Old Manse was built in 1770 in Concord, Massachusetts, by William Emerson (1743-1776), the grandfather of Transcendentalist writer Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882). William Emerson (1743-1776) went to Harvard and in 1765 succeeded the late Rev. Daniel Bliss (1715-1764) as minister at First Parish Church in Concord.
